Are There Laxatives To Lose Weight Wafely?

Are All Weight Loss Laxatives Harmful?

People are very weight conscious these days. This trend comes on the heals of a report recently issued by the Surgeon General that claimed obesity in America has reached epidemic proportions. Some people claim that laxatives are a great weight loss solution and advocate adding them to dietary programs to reduce body mass. As a result, many people are asking, “Are there any safe weight loss laxatives?”

To put it very simply, the answer to that question is no. Laxatives were developed as a treatment for occassional constipation. However, attempting to forcefully evacuate waste can actually cause a tear in the intestinal wall that leads to a potentially deadly infection.

Besides, a dietitian or someone that knows how to properly lose weight can tell that you will only lose five to six pounds at the most using laxatives because they only help you lose water weight. The weight will quickly reappear as soon as the person begins to eat and drink normally again.

Laxatives come in different formulations: stimulants, fiber, stool softener, and saline. Laxatives found in stores are often a mixture of at least two different varieties. It is important to note that most of these work by taking water away from the other tissues in the body and forcing it into the intestine in an effort to soften the stool and make it pass more easily. This action results in the vast majority of the resulting weight loss when using laxatives is water weight.

No laxatives are safe for weight loss, end of story. Since laxatives are only effective as a stool softener, it is not possible to use them to lose an adequate amount of weight or maintain any weight loss.

Sometimes feces becomes hard in the body because it is too dry, and many laxatives resolve this issue by directing water from other parts of the body in order to add moisture to the feces and make it move through the intestines effortlessly.
